i bought i tons of brightly colored tee shirts at a church rummage sale! and have been experimenting with different ways to use them. pearl has been making pot holders out of tee shirts for years and i have used them in rag rugs and baskets cutting them in to strips and tying them to gather to make a sort of yarn. love working in recycled material so tee shirts are perfect. i got the idea for this chairs seat from the wonderful alabama studio style craft book-- a fantastic book full of great ideas for tee shirt fabric i really love natalie chanin she is so inspiring and i wish i could afford one of her work shops....some day ( : making this chair was fun and i hope to make more soon!

button bracelet

I LOVE BUTTONS!!!!!!!!!! and have ben collecting them for years but they always just stayed in the button tin gathering dust. About a year ago i started making button bracelets, and have not stopped! i even make button collars if i am feeling ambitious.
I find the buttons at antique stores or cut them off the old clothes. Buttons are mysteries because there is this sense of history some were on dresses, army uniforms, shoes, coats, some are shell, plastic, pre-plastics, wood, metal, bone, all beautiful in there own way. ( :

i want to make my living as an artist.....and have learned a lot from my parents who have been doing it for years. but also seeing how other people do it on the internet is more and more important for young artist. with face-book and etsy flickr and blogging i am trying to work my way around the internet. there are so many talented people out there it can be overwhelming but you can't let that stop you. i would love any advice you might have.
