I am starting to learn how wools "speak" in a rug. How the different textures of plaids and as-is wool checks can sparkle next to overdyed solids and how undyed heathers can pop next to solids or even overdyed plaids. This was something I did not understand at first. I marveled at wool choices that rug hooking teachers so effortlessly pulled together. I do not think I could even articulate what it was -- this voice of wool.... It is still a bit of a mystery. Something intuitive, but I do think it should be discussed more. Have you discovered how different wools "speak"?

You are having a wonderful "discussion' with those gorgeous wools Brenda!! Most definitely it is intuitive but I believe can be learned by building our wool stash to include those textures and over dyed wools!! Makes me want to RuN! Not walk out to the studio and get hookin'!!!
Hugs!

I'm still learning, but it is getting a bit easier. I say I hook every rug twice because I usually have to hook a color in before I can tell if it will give me the look I want--lots of trial and error and lots of reverse hooking!

Cathy you are such a bright spot!
Debra, I reverse hook as well... as I go I pull out strips--'cause if I don't like it
(I know myself) -- I will quit working on it.... I have to make it work...
